Natural conversation a must for digital assistants to further autonomous driving

Future digital assistants could play a role in realising self-driving, but this will hinge on natural voice recognition. By Xavier Boucherat

With more and more digital assistants arriving in cars, including household names like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, there are questions to be asked about their relationship to wider industry megatrends, such as autonomy, and subsequently how they will evolve moving forward. Voice recognition is already playing a role in infotainment control and aspects such as navigation, but will it move on to take more responsibilities than this, including ones related to the driving task itself?
