NAP revision sees Malaysia sought out as an auto export hub

Ever since the revision of the National Automotive Policy in 2014, foreign investors in the automotive sector have been talking of new expansion projects in Malaysia

The Malaysian automotive market reached a record high in 2014, accounting for sales of 666,465 vehicles. The passenger car segment accounted for a significant portion of sales last year, at 588,341 units. As for output, levels in Malaysia dipped from 601,407 units in 2013 down to 596,418 last year, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA). This was due to a drop in the number of commercial vehicles produced in the country, which could not be offset by the increase in passenger car production.
