Mexico overtook Brazil as the top automotive manufacturer in Latin America in 2014. In doing so, it displaced the latter as the world's seventh largest automotive manufacturer. Mexico's rise has been largely due to the US automotive industry, to which it exports the bulk of its cars. Following the global financial crisis, the US has made a strong return to growth, and new vehicle sales have been rising ever since.
