Key US model launches highlight the power of downsizing

Frost & Sullivan’s Ted Hanawalt reflects on model launches at the 2014 NAIAS

The 50 vehicle debuts at the 2014 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) featured considerable emphasis on vehicle performance and, in stark contrast to Detroit Auto Shows of recent years, much less focus on electric vehicles. Although the Tesla press conference drew a huge crowd, the company merely gave an update on current sales, infrastructure, and safety. Tesla offered very few comments on the much anticipated Model X, or progress on its battery swapping system.
