In terms of the technology on display, the 2015 Frankfurt motor show (IAA) varied considerably from the same event two years earlier. In 2013, the BMW i3 was everywhere, and the talk was of a new €30-€35,000 (US$35-US$40,000) mainstream EV battleground featuring BMW, VW (e-Golf) and Ford (Focus Electric).
Fast forward to 2015, and the feel of the show was very different. With the next generation of EVs seemingly a few years away, the show’s focus was not on green, alternative and disruptive powertrain technology, but on performance, luxury, SUVs and luxury SUVs.
