As cars around the world see a greater level of technology content to try and stop collisions occurring in the first place, there still remains a significant requirement for systems that protect the occupants if a crash does occur.
Aziz Canatar, Global Director of Engineering, Seat Belt Systems, is in charge of the global development of seat belts at TRW. In his role he manages the development and application of this technology into new vehicles. The department of roughly 300 engineers covers a global base from locations in the US, China, Korea, Japan and the majority from Germany.
Automotive World spoke with Canatar on the future of passive safety, and how the prospect of autonomous driving will affect the development of these systems.
