Import duties, power supply keeping potential entrants into Kenya at bay

Nissan has expressed interest in setting up local assembly operations, if the local government addresses certain issues.

The automotive market in Kenya has traditionally been dominated by used vehicles, mostly imported from Japan and the UAE. The country's new car market sees additional pressure from the importation of cars outside dealer appointed channels as well. As a result of used imports, the country's new car market has taken a beating.
