Hopes high of breaking the AV glass ceiling in Singapore

Continental is one of the few automotive tech companies with sizeable R&D investment in Singapore, but it is here it hopes to put a truly driverless car on the road. By Xavier Boucherat

June 2018 saw the opening of Continental’s new research and development centre in Singapore. It is the mega-supplier’s third such facility in Asia, and one of its largest R&D outposts across the region. The opening reflected the increasing importance of the Asian market for the Tier 1 where in 2017 it estimates it made some 22% of its global sales. Such growth is expected to continue, and by 2023, Continental Singapore expects to have over 2,000 staff.
