Honda has been investing steadily in new vehicle production capacity as part of efforts to meet its ambitious sales target of 6 million vehicles by fiscal year 2017, nearly double the 3.1 million units reported in FY2012. Last fiscal year, Honda's global output rose by 8.5% to a record 4.403 million units. In his report Honda future model plans and production outlook, author Jonathan Storey forecasts the company's global output to reach 5.8 million units by 2018, with emerging markets to account for most of the 1.6 million increase.
