Fuel cell buses a likely addition to urban transport mix

The fuel cell bus offers fleets another way to go emission-free. Van Hool believes the long-range, easily-fuelled vehicles will complement battery electric services

The fuel cell electric bus is by no means new. The first models appeared in California back in 2005, and have since been succeeded by newer versions. But with diesel’s reputation damaged, and numerous cities planning to introduce emission-free policies, interest in the segment has grown again, and whilst it doesn’t quite match the hype seen in the battery electric segment, some are sure it will have a place in tomorrow’s mass transit systems.
