Fatal Uber crash prompts rethink of autonomous testing

The US averages one crash-related pedestrian death every 1.6 hours, but the first fatality linked to a fully autonomous vehicle is sending shock waves through the industry, writes Megan Lampinen

Autonomous vehicles (AVs) promise to dramatically improve today's road fatality statistics, where the vast majority of crashes stem from driver error. However, the recent fatal collision of an Uber vehicle and a pedestrian in Tempe, Arizona has raised fresh concerns about the safety of the vehicles and the best way to go about testing them.
