Tyre tread compounds, meaning the material composition of a tyre’s tread, are all blends of natural and synthetic rubber, but their exact makeups are closely guarded secrets among suppliers. However, what is plain to see is that the evolution of compound development, and the choice and possibility it offers tyre designers, has helped companies like Yokohama to carefully balance the numerous conflicting demands from customers. The Japanese company celebrates its 100th year in the business this year, and currently has 25,000 employees worldwide.
