Although Euro VI compliant trucks and buses bring environmental benefits, the down-to-earth attractions, when compared with their Euro V equivalents are, for most vehicle buyers, more dubious, especially cost-wise. Contrary to expectations, early experiences of diesel-engined Euro VI vehicles point to a modest improvement in fuel economy, although that is proving greater on Scania and MAN models which previously relied on EGR (exhaust gas circulation) alone to control NOx (oxides of nitrogen) emissions, but which now must be equipped with SCR (selective catalytic reduction) as well.
