For far too long, the automotive industry has been focused on the driving experience. While the development and marketing of cars has slowly shifted away from speed and handling towards safety and efficiency, it has remained resolutely focused on driving. After all, that is what a car is for: to be driven.
Yet we don’t actually drive our cars that much. In 2016 in the UK, 31 million cars drove 319 billion miles but were still parked up 95% of the time. This statistic is fairly stable over time and across countries. Any driver that has dared to drive in a city will have found that parking can be a time consuming, stressful and expensive experience.
Put simply, parking is a pain.
