CO2 reduction proposal could ‘stifle innovation’, says ACEA

Policy makers need to promote all forms of clean powertrain technologies to ensure CO2 targets can be met. By Michael Nash

On 8 November 2017, the European Commission (EC) published a proposal on post-2020 CO2 emissions standards for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. At a recent event in Brussels, Carlos Tavares, President of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) and Chairman of the Managing Board of PSA Group, suggested that the targets set out in the proposal were unrealistic and could be detrimental to important innovation.
