Charging long haul trucks – electrification’s last stand?

Will manufacturers be able to overcome the challenges of charging heavy-duty commercial vehicles and make long-haul electric trucks a reality? By Betti Hunter

Long haul trucks are the last stand in the road to vehicle electrification. OEMs are fine-tuning the logistics of battery size, charging infrastructure and affordability where electric cars and light trucks are concerned, and making fast progress. Players such as Daimler and MAN are working intensively on electrified trucks that can be used most effectively in urban areas. Driving out of the city and onto the highway, however is a harder hurdle to jump.
