Billion-euro emissions fallout no barrier to union pay rise at VW

VW and IG Metall help set the benchmark for automotive wages and benefits in Germany, and all eyes are on its latest collective agreement. By Megan Lampinen

Emissions scandal or not, Volkswagen still had to negotiate a new collective agreement with its IG Metall union in Germany. While the full cost of rectifying the defeat device fallout is estimated in the billions and the supervisory board has taken a pay cut, German workers stand to receive a wage rise.
