Balancing performance and efficiency is GM’s top powertrain priority

GM believes further developments in its Ecotec engines will play an important role in its key markets

GM’s global sales dropped by 3% in the third quarter of 2015. This is due to challenging conditions in South America, as well as a strategic decision to reduce presence in a number of markets.

But the OEM said it sold 7.2 million vehicles globally in the first nine months of 2015, with sales increases in four of its five largest markets. What is the key to the OEM’s progress in these locations? Tom Sutter, Global Chief Engineer for Small Ecotec Gasoline Engines, told Automotive World that success lies in achieving the right balance of performance and efficiency with its models.
