Saint-Gobain Solar Gard, the glass maker’s subsidiary which develops, manufactures and distributes films and backsheet materials, opened a new facility in Qingdao in Shandong province on 30 October.

The new coating facility will focus on the production of architectural and automotive window films for safety and security, glare reduction and energy saving for the Asian market. With a network of more than 1,800 Quantum and Solar Gard outlets in China, Saint-Gobain Solar Gard reckons to be the fastest-growing window film brand in the country.

The Qingdao manufacturing plant will pursue ISO 14001:2004 certification. Saint Gobain says Solar Gard was the first manufacturer of window films to publish an Environmental Product Declaration, based on a life cycle analysis of the cradle-to-grave impacts of its products and fulfilling the requirements of an ISO-compliant product category rule. The results are third-party verified in line with ISO 14044 and ISO 14025.
