Mazda has reported September global production of 92,110 vehicles, a year-on-year decline of 18.9%, driven by a 20.9% fall in domestic production (to 66,284 units). Overseas production fell 13.2% to 25,826.
Domestic production of passenger cars alone fell 21.8% year-on-year to 64,529 units, with output of the Mazda3 (Axela) down 29.5% at 23,004 and output of the Mazda2 (Demio) down 30.7% at 11,484.
Overseas production of cars fell even more steeply – 27.4% – to 18,233 units, with Mazda6 and Mazda3 production down 31.4% and 26.5%, to 8,209 and 5,679, respectively.
Despite the fall in September, global production in the January-September period was 895,650, a gain of 4.3%, with domestic output up 6.1% at 624,364 and overseas production up just 0.3% at 271,286.
Mazda’s domestic sales in September were 20,250, a year-on-year fall of 9.5%, with car registrations alone down 10.2% at 17,816. Sales of the Mazda2 fell 45.5% to 4,112 units. Sales of commercial vehicles fell 4.0% to 2,434. The September result took the calendar year-to-date domestic sales total to 178,226 (+20.6%), with car sales up 21.9% at 157,603.
Mazda’s exports in the latest month fell 19.5% to 52,057, with shipments to North America off 8.3% year-on-year at 21,576 and to Europe down 48.2% at 11,870. In contrast, exports to Oceania increased 12.8% to 8,933, the 9,678 balance being exports to Other countries (-6.3%). Despite the fall in September, calendar year-to-date exports remained ahead on a year-on-year basis by 2.5% at 476,577. Shipments to North America were up 29.5% at 229,951 but down 19.2% to Europe (108,769).
