GM Korea outlined an investment and development plan on 25 October, which includes launching a battery-electric variant of the Spark small car in the South Korean market in 2013, and offering it in the US market as well.
“We are planning to invest more than Won 1tr (US$908m) each year from next year to develop new vehicles, powertrains and environmentally friendly equipment,” GM Korea said in a statement on its Korean-language website.
The Chevrolet Spark EV will be built at GM Korea’s Changwon plant next year. GM will also launch a new Trax small SUV in the first half of 2012.
