Nissan is recalling certain Altima models in the US from the 2012 and 2013 model years. According to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the transverse link bolts and power steering rack bolts may not be properly tightened and could become loose. In some cases, they could even fall out and result in a loss of vehicle control.

The OEM intends to notify customers in late October. As a fix, Nissan dealers will retighten the transverse link bolts and power steering rack bolts to the proper torque specification.

The problem has not been linked to any crashes or injuries. The recall covers an estimated 13,919 vehicles, all of which were made at Nissan’s Canton plant in Mississippi.

This same fault has caused several recalls for the Altima in the past. Back in August 2008 Nissan recalled around 1,000 Altimas from the 2008 model year, warning that the left side front suspension transverse link bolt may have been incorrectly tightened. More recently, last year the OEM recalled 20,000 Altimas from 2011 and 2012 model years, noting that a loose bolt in the suspension could come out.
