British Gas will be the exclusive supplier of EV charging solutions for Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, in time for the 2013 launch of the Outlander PHEV.
Customers of Mitsubishi in the UK will have access to a range of British Gas charging solutions, including a dedicated charger wiring circuit from £375 (US$600), or a wall-mounted charger from £799, which cuts charging time by around a third. Customers in London, the East of England, the Midlands and Milton Keynes may be eligible for a free Chargemaster Homecharge–i unit, as well as access to a network of public charging points, thanks to a partnership between British Gas and Chargemaster plc’s POLAR EVSE network. Mitsubishi customers can use British Gas’ off-peak electricity tariff designed specifically with EV and PHEV owners in mind, which the utility says can save customers an average of £29 per year compared to other tariffs. British Gas customers on the tariff have a smart meter installed. All the systems are available with in-house British Gas 12-month financing plans.
Lance Bradley, Managing Director of Mitsubishi in the UK, said: “Our partnership with British Gas comes at an exciting time for Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, with sales of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV and the launch of the Outlander PHEV in 2013, it cements Mitsubishi’s plan for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles to account for 20% of our sales by 2020.”
