Honda East Africa has announced the return of the Japanese brand to Kenya following a seven-year hiatus. The company has, in this regard, set up a new dealership in Nairobi.
The dealership will be operated in partnership with TransAfrica Motors (TAM), an industrial conglomerate based in Dubai, UAE. While TAM already has four commercial vehicle dealerships in Kenya, it will run the Honda dealership as a separate division within the company.
Honda will start in Kenya with its Brio entry-level small hatchback, the new generation CR-V and the Accord sedan. The dealership is expected to commence operations in the first quarter of 2013.
Support for the facility, by way of product and parts supply, staff training and operating systems, will be provided by Honda Motor Southern Africa (HSAF), based in Johannesburg, South Africa. In this regard, HSAF has expanded its own operational capability in areas such as dealer support staff, technical support and training. It has also added a research and development component to its operation.
“We are delighted to bring Honda cars back to Kenya after such a long absence. Our return to Kenya is an important step in our strategy of expansion, which has already seen the opening of our Honda East Africa representative office in Nairobi,” said Graham Eagle, HSAF Director of sales and marketing.
