Germany: Porsche’s global sales rise 12.6% in September

Porsche has reported sales of 11,888 new cars to customers in September 2012, a year-on-year increase of 12.6% from the 10,560 delivered in the same month last year. Porsche’s year-to-date sales now total 104,362 vehicles – an increase of 14.7% compared to the 90,972 deliveries during the first nine months of 2011.

The September sales figures highlight contrasting fortunes in different markets, with sales in Europe, including Germany, falling short of those in the same month of 2011, but deliveries in the US and Asia-Pacific showing significant growth.

Sales in Europe as a whole totalled 4,067 in the latest month, versus 4,287 in September 2011, a decline of 5.1% and a significant slowing in momentum from the sales trend earlier in 2012. Year-to-date sales in Europe amounted to 37,515, versus 32,212 in the January-September 2011 period, a rise of 16.5%. In Germany alone, September 2012 sales totalled 1,325, just 17 units short of the September 2011 total of 1,342, a decline of 1.3%, but year-to-date sales were still up a healthy 18.6% at 13,654 (11,511). The company also noted that in Russia, deliveries rose by more than 90% year-on-year.

US sales in September were 2,736, compared with 2,170 in the same month of the previous year, a rise of 26.1%, taking the January-September 2012 total to 25,015, 10.4% up from the 2011 total of 22,664.

Sales in the Asia-Pacific region in the latest month were 4,526, versus 3,599 in September 2011, a gain of 25.8%, with year-to-date sales of 37,477, against 31,766 in the first nine months of 2011, a rise of 18.0%. Porsche noted it “excelled” on the Chinese market, with 2,818 deliveries to customers – an increase of 31.3% compared to the same month last year (2,146). Year-to-date sales in China were 23,910, versus 19,141 in the January-September 2011 period, a rise of 24.9%.

Porsche’s best-selling model in September 2012 was the Cayenne, with 6,495 units delivered to customers worldwide. The third generation Boxster achieved deliveries of 1,120 vehicles – an increase of 71.8% compared to September 2011. The 911 model range reported 1,809 sales in the latest month, an increase of 22.2% compared to the September 2011 total.
