Germany: CV registrations worsen in September

New commercial vehicle registrations in Germany contracted by 17% year-on-year in September to 24,138 units. Last month’s decline follows year-on-year drops of 3% in July and 6% in August this year.

Last month’s figures compared with registrations of 28,946 vehicles in September 2011. Numbers were also up month-on-month, compared with 23,870 CVs registered in Germany in August this year, the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) reports.

All of Germany’s CV segments reported sales declines in September. CVs up to six tonnes, which accounted for the bulk of registrations at 16,990 units, fell by 15% last month. CVs over six tonnes managed registrations of 6,806 units, a drop of 19%. Buses fared the worst last month, with numbers falling sharply by 26%, from 464 units to 342.

For the year to the end of September 2012, a total of 232,540 trucks and buses were registered in Germany. This figure was down 4% compared with the 242,707 CVs registered during the January-September 2011 period.
