The German electricity utility Naturstrom and BMW have agreed to work together to supply renewably produced electricity to power the latter’s electric vehicles in Germany. BMW i customers will be offered a tailor-made renewable electricity contract for their EVs, starting with the BMW i3 due for market launch at the end of 2013.

Cosmas Asam, who is BMW’s representative in the collaboration with the utility, said he was glad BMW had partnered with a supplier which offered 100% renewable power with a high proportion of wind energy largely produced in Germany. BMW’s news release said Naturstrom Director Oliver Hummel was pleased to have allied with an automotive company which had led the automotive manufacturing sector Dow Jones Sustainability Index rankings for the eighth consecutive year.
