Musk shares patents to save the world

If the big OEMs take on Tesla’s technology and start building more EVs, this will validate Tesla’s vehicles.

Car production is still on the rise, and the global automotive market is fast approaching 100 million vehicles annually. However, in most markets, electric vehicles account for less than 1% of total sales, and for OEMs globally, sales have mostly been disappointing. One success story is Tesla, whose Chief Executive Elon Musk has said that “it is impossible for Tesla to build electric cars fast enough to address the carbon crisis,” but even their sales are in relatively low numbers. With this in mind, Musk has announced on his blog, that the OEM plans to make all of its hundreds of patents freely available.
