MEGATRENDS USA: Suppliers need to collaborate in order to innovate

Automotive Megatrends USA: Collaborations between various tiers of the supply chain are required to develop innovative lightweight products

The corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) regulation target of 54.5mpg by 2025 is pressurising OEMs to make vehicles lighter. Dave Andrea, Senior Vice President, OESA, told Automotive World in November 2014 that the industry is “still not moving fast enough to where CAFE needs us to be.”

He added that there is already pressure on the entire supply chain, “from systems integrators to discrete components manufacturers, and tooling companies,” as a result of capacity constraints. This, he says, is forcing OEM-supplier relationships to improve.
