The future of gasoline engines: boom, bust, or both?

With the diesel crisis still in full swing and a wave of new EVs yet to hit the market, the short-term outlook for gasoline engines looks positive. Longer term, however, this boom could be followed by a gradual slump, writes Axel Schmidt, Global Automotive Lead at Accenture

Many indicators seem to point to a short-term boom in demand for gasoline engines, resulting mostly due to the diesel crisis, followed by a prolonged period of decline due to the rise of electric vehicles (EVs). While this may hold true in general, the future of gasoline engines depends on a number of interdependent variables, and is not as clear-cut as many may think.
