Europe’s steel suppliers urge ‘more movement in anti-dumping policy’

Changes could be made in law to safeguard European steel production from cheap Chinese imports. By Michael Nash

According to data from the World Steel Association (WSA), crude steel production reached 136.5 million tonnes (Mt) in January 2017, marking a 7% increase compared to January 2016. China’s crude steel production for January 2017 increased by 7.4% to 67.2 Mt. While some European countries saw an increase in production, many experts are adamant that cheap steel imports from China are hugely detrimental to Europe’s suppliers.
