COMMENT: Turkey offers lessons for post-Brexit UK auto industry

Arda Ermut, President of the Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey, examines the benefits and drawbacks of the custom union with the EU for Turkey’s automotive sector

After the UK exits the EU in March 2019, the country will find itself in the same position as Turkey and its automotive sector – a proud exporting nation on the outside looking in to the lucrative European market. It remains difficult, however, to predict the full impact of Brexit on the automotive industry in the UK, especially with the country still debating its position on a future potential customs union with the EU.
