COMMENT: In the car of the future, the customer is king

The online experience in the car of tomorrow offers exciting opportunities for in-vehicle infotainment – and maybe even a brand new shopping experience, writes Andreas Herrmann

Each year, drivers around the world spend some 400 billion hours behind the wheel. While some of this time involves driving pleasure, much of it is spent waiting in stop-and-go traffic.

Researchers have attempted to calculate the value of these 400 billion hours. Based on global gross domestic product, the hourly rate might be set at between €3 and €5 (US$3.6 – US$6).
