With autonomous cars, the word automobile finally makes sense, says Uber

Uber’s Stephen Lesh joins OEMs, global suppliers and key new players at industry-heavy Autonomous Car Detroit event. Martin Kahl shares his stand-out moments

We’ve used the word automobile for over 100 years, but only now is it starting to make sense, said Stephen Lesh of Uber, in his keynote address at Autonomous Car Detroit, a conference hosted by Automotive Megatrends.

And now those automobiles, said Lesh, who heads up Vehicle Programs in Uber’s Advanced Technologies Group, are at the heart of a paradigm shift from outcomes that are currently achieved by an individual – a driver – to outcomes that are achieved by an ecosystem.
