Description
This report examines existing and emerging transmissions technology and the market and legislative influences that are driving developments in the sector. It includes market forecasts for the current range of transmission design types, in addition to profiles of all the main suppliers in the sector, both established and emerging.
Abstract
Manual and planetary automatic transmissions look set to continue to lose market share to automated manuals (AMT) - both single- and dual-clutch systems - and continuously-variable transmissions (CVT).
Furthermore, while production volumes of manuals and automatics will fall further in 2009 than they did in 2008 as the global recession takes hold and light vehicle output continues to fall, AMTs are forecast to continue to increase in total production volume throughout the period with an average annual growth rate of more than 20%. CVT output is expected to significantly outperform the light vehicle market with growth averaging around 10% per year.
