A new Automotive World report, ‘Mercedes-Benz Cars model plans and production outlook to 2020’ is available to download from the research section of AutomotiveWorld.com.

Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz Car division – which includes the Mercedes and Smart brands – sold just over 2 million units in 2015. Under its ‘Mercedes-Benz 2020’ strategy, the OEM aims to regain premium-segment sales leadership by that year, and double vehicle deliveries to about 2.6 million units.

Mercedes-Benz Cars model plans and production outlook to 2020‘, available exclusively to Automotive World subscribers, outlines how Daimler aims to deliver on this strategy, and the role that will be played by the two brands, strong sales of SUVs and its widening alliance between with Renault-Nissan.

The report’s author, Jonathan Storey commented: “Mercedes-Benz Cars has now put firmly behind it, strategic setbacks such as the outright failure of the Chrysler alliance/takeover and the relative failure of its initial attempts to expand its product range beyond the core C-, E- and S-Class. Having exceeded 2-million unit sales last year we are expecting further growth to take it above 2.4 million by 2020. More importantly, that growth should be achievable while earning profit margins appropriate for a premium brand producer.”

“Beyond 2020 the division is expecting its new EQ sub-brand to provide much of the growth impetus, suggesting the electric vehicles it plans to sell could comprise 15-25% of sales by 2025.”
