Goodyear is claimed to be shuttering its vehicle hose manufacturing plant in Collingwood, Ontario. The move is expected to see the loss of 165 jobs in the region.
Although the company has denied the closure, Mayor Chris Carrier confirmed the news on 24 June at a meeting, The Associated Press states, adding that the closure would affect 138 hourly employees and 27 salaried staff.
Goodyear spokesperson Skip Scherer explained to the news service that the report was speculation and that the company had not reached any decision regarding the sale of the plant. Mayor Carrier had received the details from the plant manager and not from the company, he added.
