UK: New NAC chairman sets start date for MG TF assembly at Longbridge

NAC MG UK Limited has announced the appointment of a new chairman, He Xiao Qing (pronounced (Hurr).

He, 44, who succeeds Wang Hong Biao, previously worked for Nanjing Automobile (Group) Corporation's legal, International trade and management and international finance divisions. The new chairman was also part of the original acquisition team and has been on the board of NAC MG since it was set up in the UK.

He's first action has been to announce a date for the start of assembly of the revamped former MG TF roadster, now renamed MG TF LE500. This is set to commence at the Longbridge plant in Birmingham at the beginning of August, with the first cars delivered to showrooms in the UK in September. Full details of the re-establishment of a dealer network have yet to be announced.

The company states that a design and engineering team at the SMTC facility in Leamington, Warwickshire is currently working on plans for other models, but as yet, no details of these cars are forthcoming.

SMTC UK Limited (Shanghai Motor Technical Centre, UK), a wholly owned subsidiary of SAIC Motor, currently employees approximately 120 engineers and designers, with a further 150 contractors, and provides engineering and design skills for the MG and Roewe brands.
