China: Dongfeng Honda delays Civic Hybrid assembly as local sales stall

The Wuhan-based Dongfeng Honda joint venture has announced it is to delay local assembly of the Civic Hybrid due to escalating component costs, a senior executive has told the Sina.com portal.
"We will not start to produce Civic hybrids locally before we manage to cut the costs of the hybrid system," Liu Yuhe, the JV’s executive vice general manager reportedly stated. He did not give a new date for local assembly now that the former target of 2009 has been abandoned.
The car has been available as an import in China since November but the first batch of 400 is reportedly not yet sold out due mostly to a high price.
