Global automotive supplier Visteon Corporation (NYSE: VC) is expanding its class-leading electronics portfolio of information and controls products with a new head-up display offering.

Visteon and BAE Systems, a global defense and security business, are developing an industry-leading display image quality with a compact and efficient optical design. Bringing BAE’s state-of-the-art aerospace technology to the automotive market, Visteon is applying its expertise in electronics, mechanical design and packaging, software, display integration, thermal and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) management. Initial development projects include both combiner and windshield head-up display systems using a thin-film transistor (TFT) image source.

Focused on helping drivers manage cognitive workload, Visteon’s head-up display systems are designed to display different types of critical information directly in the driver’s line of sight. Examples include vehicle speed, blind spot detection, turn-by-turn navigation and collision avoidance warning.

“Visteon views head-up display technology a natural extension of the current driver information and advanced HMI solutions we provide to vehicle manufacturers around the world,” said Christian Feltgen,Visteon global director of cockpit electronics.  “We are excited to be able to demonstrate this technology to our customers in the coming months.”

Today, Visteon develops driver information solutions, including low-cost, mid-range and premium platforms that deliver critical driver information while appealing to the increasing sophistication expected by consumers. In addition, Visteon’s multi-function center display platforms and instrument cluster concepts combine Visteon’s strength in craftsmanship, design, human machine interaction (HMI) and intelligent TFT display integration.

Visteon will display this technology among others at the Electronica show in Munich, Germany, on Nov. 13-16 in Hall A6, Booth 343.
