Volkswagen is celebrating an award-winning start to 2018 with the brand’s popular and flexible Touran people carrier once again maintaining its pole position as Best MPV in the renowned What Car? Awards.

Meanwhile, the popular Passat GTE takes a price point title in the awards’ Best Hybrid Car category, with the plug-in Passat GTE Advance named ‘Best Hybrid Car, £25,000-£35,000’ at the annual celebration of motoring excellence. The new T-Roc compact SUV is also commended in the title’s Safety Award section.

Scoring a third consecutive win in the MPV class What Car? judges said of the seven-seat Touran – winner in 1.6 TDI 115 SE form: “All of our finalists have their plus points, but the Touran remains the most well-rounded MPV on sale. Family buyers may be flocking to SUVs these days, but the Touran shows there’s still life in this class yet.“

Turning to the frugal, refined Passat GTE Advance What Car? said: “The GTE takes everything that we like about the Passat – its space, equipment and reasonable price – and adds in exceptionally low running costs and an electric driving range of 28 miles.“

Commenting on the T-Roc’s commendation in the What Car? Safety Award the judges said: “The T-Roc is the safest small SUV you can buy right now, which is a real achievement in this ever-expanding market. Volkswagen includes its latest driver assistance tech as standard, too.“

Discussing the early year silverware Alison Jones, Director of Volkswagen UK, said: “It’s gratifying, and somewhat rare, for a car to win three successive What Car? awards and I see the Touran’s ongoing success as simple testament to the car’s brilliance. Safe, flexible, efficient and stylish, the Touran is the family MPV that ticks every box.”

Elsewhere today, the Volkswagen up! was being lauded for its fleet appeal by the judges in the inaugural Company Car TodayCCT100 Awards.
