Chennai, often called “The Detroit of India”, is now amongst the top ten global automotive manufacturing centres. Data by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) showed that Tamil Nadu was the largest contributor to the sector in terms of industrial output. As a state, Tamil Nadu has about 20% of India’s total installed capacity of vehicle production and accounts for 21% of India’s automobile exports. To match production with demand, many automakers over the last few months have started to invest heavily in various segments in the industry. According to data released by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), the industry has attracted foreign direct investment (FDI) worth US$ 12,232.06 million between April 2000 and February 2015.

NNG, the leading automotive navigation provider, sees great potential in the Tamil Nadu automotive sector, where it is already in partnership with 2 out of the 6 biggest OEMs operating in the region. NNG has plans to further develop its business within Chennai’s growing automotive market to fuel industry growth.

Two cars equipped with NNG Navigation will enter the market in the coming months, both of which are manufactured in a Chennai factory. The two projects truly differ from one other in terms of hardware, functionality set, and level of integrity, according differing OEM needs. This is a great example of how NNG’s single-engine technology can be fully customized and adapted on a project-to-project basis, allowing the company to cater to various OEM requirements in terms of car models and branding.

Péter Bolesza, Vice President of Eastern Europe and Emerging Markets at NNG said, “With our single-engine technology, we are way ahead of our competitors in terms of development time and costs – two major factors that OEMs have to account for when planning the development of infotainment systems. This technology enables us to offer solutions that work perfectly no matter the hardware or screen specifications. It also allows carmakers to keep their own brand identity and create a totally unique user experience. Our strategy, Navigation for All, is based on this solution, and I can confirm that we are ready to fulfill that. With the kind of growth India has shown in the past few years, we are looking forward to contributing to the further development of this market.”

NNG has been present in the Indian market since they opened a local office in Gurgaon in 2011. The company is the proud holder of the Mobility Excellence Award 2014 for “Best Automotive Navigation Provider”, awarded by Mobility India.
