Nissan and Veolia’s subsidiary in Hong Kong, Hong Kong District Cooling Company Limited (HKDC), today jointly announced the start of field tests for the 100% electric Nissan e-NV200 commercial vehicle at Kai Tak Development (KTD). A new development area in Kowloon, KTD spans more than 320 hectares and includes the former Kai Tak airport site and adjoining districts. HKDC is currently operating the first environmentally-friendly District Cooling System (DCS) in KTD. The DCS serves chilled water for air-conditioning to buildings within the development area.

This road test is part of a comprehensive field testing program by Nissan to promote cleaner mobility solutions for Hong Kong. This initiative between Nissan and HKDC is aimed to drive the further development of zero-emission mobility solutions and infrastructure in Hong Kong, to help achieve the city’s goal of developing a more sustainable city of the future.

During the field test, HKDC will operate a Nissan e-NV200 for use as an operations vehicle in KTD. HKDC will operate the vehicle in different road conditions, including both developed areas and construction sites. The vehicle will also be used at the Cruise Terminal as well as Hong Kong’s Children Hospital, and will support daily DCS operations.

Vehicle operation data will be recorded and stored in a data logger for further analysis and research at Nissan’s research facilities in Japan. After three months of field testing, the companies will evaluate the model’s potential for commercial use in Hong Kong.

A key contributor to Nissan’s zero-emissions leadership and a driver of innovation in the commercial vehicle segment, e-NV200 offers the spaciousness, versatility and practicality of its base vehicle, the multi-purpose commercial van, NV200. It also delivers advanced driving performance that can only be achieved through the powertrain of the Nissan LEAF, the world’s best-selling EV. The e-NV200 provides exceptionally smooth acceleration and quietness, both driving characteristics unique to EVs, while keeping CO2 emissions at zero during use.

Launched in June 2014 in Europe and also rolled out in Japan, e-NV200 is the second EV to be sold globally by Nissan, following the Nissan LEAF.
