The Opel plant in Kaiserslautern is looking forward to welcoming a new plant manager in 2015 when Manfred Gellrich will take over as Director of the Engine and Component Plant. Gellrich, previously responsible for the plant in Bochum, will succeed Elvira Tölkes who is now in charge in Eisenach. Since then, Peter Winternheimer has been the acting plant manager in Kaiserslautern.

“Kaiserslautern is getting an experienced production expert in Manfred Gellrich. He will play a major role in aligning the site for future requirements. He showed strong management skills as the director of the Bochum plant during a difficult period and did a great job for which we would like to thank him,” said Peter Thom, Vice President Manufacturing Opel Group.

Thom also thanked Peter Winternheimer for his work as the acting plant manager in Kaiserslautern. Winternheim has been named Director Manufacturing Engineering, Strategy and Planning and will move to the company’s headquarters in Rüsselsheim.

Manfred Gellrich, born in Celle in 1962, has a degree in mechanical engineering. He served an apprenticeship as a motorcar mechanic prior to his studies. Gellrich joined Opel in 1992. He has been a manager in various positions in Rüsselsheim and Eisenach, amongst others, he was responsible for the bodyshop and paintshop in Rüsselsheim. He took charge in Bochum in 2010.
