Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), one of Asia’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, together with Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. (DICV), its strategic counterpart under the new Asia Business Model, has announced senior level changes to take effect in the coming weeks.
Mr. Satyakam Arya, currently Vice President of Procurement, DICV, will move to MFTBC, Japan, and succeed Mr. Patrick Burghardt as Director & Head of Procurement, Daimler Trucks Asia, effective September 1, 2014.
Mr. Patrick Burghardt, currently Director & Head of Procurement, Daimler Trucks Asia, will take over the position of Head of Network Management Truck Powertrain, Daimler AG.
Mr. Burghardt started his professional career at EvoBus GmbH in Mannheim in 2000. After several years as Manufacturing Engineer and Global Project Coordinator, he joined Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation in 2008, building up and leading the Truck Cost Planning department at MFTBC. In 2012 he took over the assignment as Head of Procurement, MFTBC.
Mr. Arya has been with DICV since 2009 and has put in place an effective procurement system at DICV, has overseen various rollout projects, and addressed the need of DICV’s business plan requirements efficiently.
Mr. Yasuhiko Kondo, currently Senior Manager of Life Cycle Management and Governance & Operations Management Procurement, MFTBC, will succeed Mr. Arya, taking over the role as Vice President of Procurement at DICV, also effective September 1, 2014.
Mr. Kondo has served in the area of Life Cycle Management and Procurement since 2005 at MFTBC, Japan. With his vast experience at various functional and operational levels will certainly add value to the existing setup and ably manage and support the procurement operations of the company.
Mr. Mathew Oommen, currently Assistant Vice President of Product Engineering, will take over as Vice President of Supply Chain Management, DICV, effective August 1, 2014.
Mr. Mathew Oommen has been fully involved in the product engineering and full vehicle integration and was actively involved for medium- and heavy-duty projects from inception at DICV and has made substantial contribution to DICV’s focus on creating trucks for India.
Asia Business Model moving ahead
The Asia Business Model is an integral component of Daimler Trucks Global Excellence Program ‘DT#1 (Daimler Trucks Number One)’ designed to secure Daimler Trucks leadership position in the key growth markets in Asia and Africa. By leveraging its operational strengths in Kawasaki, Japan (MFTBC), and Chennai, India (DICV), the new business model is targeted to pull in further unit sales increase to 290,000 units by 2020, and thus, as “Daimler Trucks Asia” making a major contribution to Daimler Trucks overall sales target of over 700,000 trucks in the year 2020.
The new business model enables Daimler Trucks Asia to fully leverage its product portfolio, R&D network, joint sourcing, and global production footprint. Short-term joint projects are already underway in areas including sourcing, logistics, and shared IT systems and platforms. Joint project committees are also in place to leverage strengths of each side. Both companies, MFTBC and DICV, will remain as independent legal entities.
