Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd. today announced that the company is supplying Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. with the high-output lithium-ion battery pack used in the X-Trail Hybrid launched in May by Nissan.

The lithium-ion battery pack used in the X-Trail Hybrid comprises a battery module that houses the cylindrical battery cells and a Battery Management System (BMS).
The battery cells manufactured by Hitachi Vehicle Energy, Ltd., a member of the Hitachi Automotive Systems Group, are assembled into battery packs at the Kentucky Plant of Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, Inc.

Hitachi has been a world pioneer in the lithium-ion battery business ever since 1999 when it started mass-producing lithium-ion battery products that in addition to being safe and high-performance were also long-lasting. Since then a total of more than five million of these products have been sold for hybrid buses and trucks, and hybrid cars.

As well as this long history of supplying mass-produced lithium-ion batteries, market feedback from the accumulated record of mass-production and quality management expertise has resulted in the high reliability that is of first importance.

In 2014 Hitachi Automotive Systems integrated the design and research and development operations of Hitachi Vehicle Energy, which manufactures the lithium-ion batteries, making it possible to utilize Hitachi Automotive Systems’ electronic, control and software technologies to develop more-sophisticated lithium-ion battery capabilities.

Looking to the future, Hitachi Automotive Systems will continue to contribute to the evolution of electric vehicles through the strengthening of electric powertrain products.
