The first innovation is in the tailgate, which features a more practical, smart-opening system that lets the top of the liftgate slide over the vehicle roof at the push of a button. This creates a gain of 25 cm in comparison to a traditional liftgate—a welcome addition in the increasingly confined surroundings of parking lots. Urban Liftgate also features parts made of lightweight materials, showcased by the composites found in the tailgate and spare-wheel tray. These solutions promote efficiency and responsibility by reducing the weight of the vehicle and improving fuel consumption. Such gains are further enhanced by a new spray-on metalized paint that creates a chrome-like appearance without the additional weight incurred when using the metal itself. The state-of-the-art third brake light is “invisible” and cannot be seen until the brake is applied.
