BorgWarner Adds New Production Line in Ningbo to Meet Increasing Domestic Demand for Environmentally Friendly Technologies

BorgWarner exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve
BorgWarner is adding a new production line in Ningbo, China, for its latest exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. The facility manufactures an entire family of state-of-the-art emissions products, including EGR valves, coolers and modules as well as ignition coils, secondary air systems and thermostats.

BorgWarner is expanding capacity in Ningbo, China, with a new production line for its latest exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves. Engineered to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions for passenger cars and commercial vehicles, BorgWarner’s advanced EGR valves deliver precise and responsive control, higher operating pressures and flow rates, excellent sealing and corrosion resistance. The new line will meet increasing customer demand through localized production. BorgWarner expects to supply its latest EGR technology to a large Chinese automaker beginning in May 2015.

“With BorgWarner’s latest expansion, we are strengthening our leadership position in the rapidly evolving Chinese automotive market for environmentally friendly technologies,” said Brady Ericson, President and General Manager, BorgWarner Emissions Systems. “Since 2006, our production facility in Ningbo has become home to an entire family of state-of-the-art emissions products, from EGR valves, coolers and modules to ignition coils, secondary air systems and thermostats. As demand increases, we expect production of our advanced emissions technologies to escalate significantly.”

BorgWarner’s latest EGR valve features an advanced compact actuator with a DC motor to deliver high torque, fast response and reliable operation. Integrated sensors provide feedback to a closed-loop control system, positioning the valve to precisely control recirculated exhaust gas. Compared with previous technologies, BorgWarner’s latest EGR valve delivers higher actuation force, greater flow capability and more flexible mounting orientations. For improved heat and corrosion resistance, the main components of the EGR valve are constructed from stainless steel.
