Toyota Motor Corporation’s worldwide wholesales dipped below 8.7 million units in 2015/16, the second year of decline from a record 9.12 million units in 2013/14.
‘Toyota Motor Corporation model plans and production outlook to 2020’, available exclusively to Automotive World subscribers, suggests that Toyota’s light vehicle output (including non-consolidated Chinese JVs) is expected to rise to almost 9.8 million units in calendar 2016, and continue growing to above 11 million units by 2020.
The report’s author, Jonathan Storey commented: “Toyota is a fascinating company. On the one hand it has a deserved reputation for being conservative, well-managed and well-resourced – witness its current holding of US$44bn in cash and time deposits. On the other it is not afraid of the radical – its backing of hybrid technology has paid dividends over the long term and it is now hoping for similar success from being at the forefront of the push to bring fuel cell vehicles to market. I for one, wouldn’t bet against it.”
