Other than issues with cost, infrastructure and availability, one of the key barriers to the adoption of alternative fuel vehicles is education. If consumers or commercial vehicle drivers in the US are asked about their opinion regarding various alternative fuels, it is likely they will raise issues with initial cost, range, refuelling, or driving experience. The US Department of Energy has announced that it proposes to award up to US$4.5m in an attempt to increase the acceptance and deployment of alternative fuel vehicles through high impact and highly innovative approaches.
